What is CyberSecurity?
Cybersecurity is a very broad term and it can be confusing to understand quickly at a glance. Cybersecurity can also be referred to as IT security or computer security and, in a nutshell, it involves methods of protecting data, computer systems, software applications, and networks from hackers or unauthorized people.

Cybersecurity has become a hot topic over the past few years because our technologies and devices are becoming more and more connected. You might have heard about cloud-based applications, smart devices like smart TVs or smartphones, and wireless networks. These are all things people can hack into. The purpose of cybersecurity is to prevent your data from being stolen or sold.

Cybersecurity Threats
Cybersecurity is constantly evolving because threats are becoming more and more elaborate. These threats can feel like a distant future for some, but they're closer to home than you might think. They don't just affect companies, they affect households and individuals too. Defending yourself against these threats really depends on the effectiveness of your household or organization's IT security.

In many cases, the value of cybersecurity is understood, but very rarely enforced until a bad and malicious incident happens. It is only natural to look for a strong cybersecurity solution after a data breach or if you've had personal information stolen, but the recovery process can be time-consuming and tedious. When it comes to threats, the best defense is to be informed and prepared.

How to Protect Yourself
Strong cybersecurity has many layers. It first begins with a secure firewall to protect your network, a robust antivirus, a strong wireless (preferably encrypted) network, and security protection tool to help detect odd network patterns and behaviors. There are also tools you can use to protect login information, like a password manager and two-factor authentication. Cybersecurity also includes awareness and education of today's threats and attacks, so that you don't accidentally fall for social engineering tricks that hackers use to get your data.
